8 Effective Email Marketing Strategies

Continuing on with last week's topic on email marketing, here is an interesting article on "8 Effective Email Marketing Strategies, Backed by Science."Here are the eight strategies summarized in the article:
  • Personalize your email without using the recipient's name
    • While I find myself prefer having my name on the marketing emails, a research done by Temple's Fox School of Business suggests that such practice of personalization could be harmful. According to the article, until the brand actually has more knowledge on or relationship with a particular customer, it is better to focus on content more without the recipient's name.
  • The long and short of subject lines
    • The "dead zone" of subject length would be of 60 to 70 characters. Subject lines with less than 50 characters or more than 70 characters exhibited equally higher email open rates.
  • 8PM ~ midnight is the prime time to send your email
  • The best content is free content: Give something away
  • Mobile opens accounts for 47% of all email opens
    • Convert your email to a one column template for an easy mobile fix.
    • Bump up the front size for improved readability on smart phones.
    • Follow the iOS guideline of buttons at least 44 pixels wide by 44 pixels tall.
    • Make the call-to-action obvious and easy to tap.
  • Email still reigns over Facebook and Twitter
    • We learned in class that email marketing is an affordable yet effective marketing strategy. Knowing that email reigns over social media, companies may invest more on building effective emails.
  • Send email on the weekends
  • Re-engage on inactive group of subscribers
