‘Push Pop Press’ Acquired by Facebook

Last year, ‘Push Pop Press’ set off to re-imagine the book. The company created innovate ways to publish and explore text, images, audio, video and interactive graphics on touch-screen mobile devices and the end result was a new kind of book - Al Gore’s ‘Our Choice’ that was released in early 2011.

On its website, you can find a well-known quote by Tech columnist David Pogue of the New York Times summing up the tool: “This is one of the most elegant, fluid, impresive apps you’ve seen. It’s a showpiece for the new world of touch-screen gadgets.”

The publishing technology was a result of teaming between the Push Pop Press team, Melcher Media and Al Gore. The tool’s acquisition by Facebook suggests that the large social network has set off to help design the world’s largest book. It also means that there is possibility the giant social player might either use the bought technology on its mobile applications or it would enter the space of digital book publishing. Either way, Facebook would be enabled to give users richer ways to share their stories. What this means for digital marketers is also the ability to explore the advertising use of richer media content on social networks.
