The power of e-commerce

Many many years ago, while I was still an undergrad student studying MIS, I decided to focus on web design. Even though I'm not a particularly creative person, I did well in web design. Little did I know, I was asked to design business school director's website as my final internship project. This professor/director of business school has a side business in which he sells a custom reporting software. Mind you, this is year 2005, when e-commerce was just kicking up and only the so-called "big dogs" are getting into the game, i.e. Amazon, eBay. He advertised his software through word-of-mouth and distributed the software via email. He wanted me to build a "nice-looking" web interface as to make his company a bit more credible. Two weeks later, I presented him a functional and colorful website. He adopted it and started using it ever since. His business definitely grew partly, if not substantially, because of this website.

Right there, after the first lecture of this class, I came to the realization that I partook in the earliest form of digital marketing without consciously knowing it.

Nice.
