Amazon more popular than Walmart amongst wealthier Americans

After studying in class different business models in the WWW, here's another big milestone for Amazon: surpassing Walmart in popularity as preferred retailer for wealthy Americans.

This shows that the distinction between brick and mortar and online retailers in blurry. According to Bob Shullman, former CEO of Ipsos: "If you actually listen to consumers, many of them don't differentiate between brick-and-mortar and digital today," he said. "Three or four years ago, they did. ... Amazon has made it extremely easy to buy. And higher-income people clearly understand the value proposition Amazon has."

This is interesting news. It is not too surprising that Amazon would become the market leader for wealthy Americans first. The wealthy are more connected, and have been buying online longer so they may be more comfortable using amazon. Mobile shopping is making great gains right now, and more than half of phones are smartphones. Many less-wealthy people may start using mobile devices are their primary devices since they are less expensive and can be a primary device. Perhaps we'll see amazon overtake wallmart completely when that happens.
