Android Gaming Console

Google appears to be continuing it's quest to be everywhere its users may be consuming information or content: smart phones, tablets, browsers, social networks and even gaming consoles and digital watches. It seems that Google is going down the path more and more to make its own hardware, in addition to allowing other electronic providers to build on top of android. The company successfully launched their Nexus tablet last year to likely keep customers in their ecosystem, as well as possibly trying to sell some digital content. With this new device, they are likely trying to build on the success of both their tablet launch and games running on android software, which according to the article have been growing faster than Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo.

While I like the concept of Google trying to be everywhere its customers are, I'm extremely interested to see how this plays out since it strays from what they do really well...search. Unless you're Apple, it's almost impossible to sell hardware profitably, and the digital content and media business is extremely competitive with many companies selling content. Google seems to be successful at most things they try, so we'll see how this goes.
