Google Announces Shared Endorsements

This past week, Google announced 'Shared Endorsements', which is an expansion of using 'Google +1s' in advertisements. This basically means that Google can feature any of your online activities e.g., if you follow a brand or if you comment on a post, with your picture and name so that others can see your online activity.

Businesses will pay Google for this feature, and in turn, friends will know when you endorse / 'like' / write about any of the businesses's products. However, this is not new. Facebook has already done this through their 'Sponsored Stories' ad units, and Twitter has 'Promoted Tweets' ads too. This does make sense, and marketing and advertising is going towards a more personalized model. After all, there is a saying in the internet business, "If you're not the customer, you're the product."
