Is google dumbing us down?

Is google dumbing us down?

As I was working for the first time on Wordpress and using the SEO functionality, I discovered that google indexed websites based on the Flesch Kincaid readability test.

The test is a metric that scores your page based on readability. It counts the number of words in your sentences and the syllables in the words you are using.

According to some sources this function may be as important as the popularity, the quality of the links linking to the site and relevancy. You can very well think that the quality of a message lies in the way it is written, as such someone that spends the time writing to optimize the site must have the means to produce great quality content.

Well, how about searching for Measles Vaccination Side Effect. Would you rather have for public information a quality medicinal website or a blog about the dangers of vaccinations? Well I think it is outrageous that some Lifestyle bloggers can rank that high on the subject and encourage people not to vaccinate their kids.

And why should the internet prioritize the dumb down and poor version of the content over something more elaborate? Could the google-bots for example compare the style of writing with the content it proposes to determine if the language used is relevant for the target audience?

The internet should be an educational media that should not cater the the lowest common denominator.
