"Moments" Facebook's New Limited Sharing App

Yesterday, Techcrunch reported that Facebook is working on the final stages of a new app it has code-named "Moments". Moments will allow users to more easily share with a small set of close family or friends. Moments will leverage a more friendly design than the traditional method of having to use the privacy selector within the News Feed and specified Friend Lists.
A source likened the new app to the current app Cluster

Facebook is built around the idea of sharing. Currently, there are a large portion of users who are not sharing because they do not want to broadcast their updates to a wide group of people. Either for security or due to embarrassment, the level of daily sharing has declined. Moments would allow users to feel like they are more safely sharing information and updates. If users are more comfortable with the small group sharing, they are likely to share more. As people share more, engagement and the range of content increases. This will allow Facebook to collect better ad targeting data and monetize through their ad platform. Therefore, this new app not only has implications for how content is shared but how the paid ad platform evolves as a result of the new data. It will be extremely interesting to see if Facebook chooses to launch this new app and if it really does help them better target ads to the appropriate user.
