Lower Fees for Internet Streaming

It appears as though radio stations that broadcast over the Internet will pay lower fees through 2010 according to a new agreement between SoundExchange and the National Association of Broadcasters.

It remains to be seen how this deal will affect the negotiations with stand-alone online ventures such as those owned by RealNetworks Inc, Yahoo! Inc, and Microsoft Corp. Additionally, SoundExchange is also still talking to companies that are members of the Digital Media Association as well as talking to the DiMA itself.

These lower fees may mean that companies that stream over the Internet will be able to lower costs while still seeking the most effective ways to monetize their potential advertising reach, thus stemming some of the losses felt by shrinking overall ad revenues in the radio sector.
