Social Workout

Some people love working out together. Whether its coed soccer, kickball or group runs, being active with others has its advantages. There have been attempts to facilitate the spontaneous gathering of those who want to find the next game or run, (see now defunct Sportaneous, a CBS alum creation), but these have proved difficult. The next generation of social media inspired apps have removed the pesky issue of having people run next to each other and replaced it with tracking and monitoring functions that can be easily shared and actively tracked. Apps for cycling and running are the most obvious, but the next level will come from sports like golf, surfing and beyond.  As a cycling enthusiast, I can speak from experience when I say that checking my friends/teammates/competitors' daily activity is both inspiring and motivating.  The joy created by knowing that others are out there training and doing that they love is hard to quantify; or is it?? The branding/advertising and commercial opportunities are pretty mind boggling. Contests and and competitions are natural plugins to this environment.
