Twitter API

I took a look at the Twitter API this past week. Other than it being rather complex, I could see a lot of opportunity for simply monitoring keywords or hash tags. From a social media perspective, it may be useful to either have an automated response for specific keywords or to notify you of increased attention/mentions of your brand. For the automated responses, you'd want to incorporate some NLP (natural language processing) to ensure that you're automated message is appropriate for the message. For instance, if someone says something negative about your brand (hopefully detected by the NLP), you wouldn't want to send them a tweet encouraging them to visit your website. You'd want to have this message forwarded via email (or some other alert) to notify you of an upset customer. This could help improve your customer service while driving more traffic to your website.
