Youtube as a shopping website?

It is not a secret that product review videos and unboxing videos are very popular on youtube and around 55% customers watch such videos prior to making a purchase. Thus, unsurprisingly google is searching for ways to incorporate shopping feature to youtube. According to recent Bloomberg report, to make such a transformation google is currently gathering information about products featured in videos. To be more specific google requests content creators to tag products featured in their videos. As a result, youtube can get a product catalog where users would be able to click on items they see and buy them directly. The fact that google is currently testing Shopify integration mechanics to sell products through youtube is only confirming the hypothesis that youtube can turn into shopping platform in future.

In my opinion this report is very aligned with Google's strategy of being the first and the last stop of customer experience in internet (mentioned by Rand Fishkin). Incorporation of shopping feature to youtube would prevent customers from leaving google ecosystem which would as a result, limit brand's ability to gather customer data and capture "google unmonetized impressions". In the very similar way as google search incorporated "no click" feature, youtube can incorporate its own "no click" feature as well
