Looking for a new job? See how Google, Snapchat, and LinkedIn can help you!

If you are looking for jobs, the internet has newer ways to help you! While Google rolled out a search engine for jobs this week, Snapchat launched ‘Snaplications’ in the US! LinkedIn, on the other hand, rolled out a new tool that makes it easier to know who is searching for your profile.

It is interesting to see how brands are continuously leveraging technology to reach their target audience and simplify processes via digital platforms!

Google’s new job search is powered by AI and lets users find the perfect job listings for a search query. What’s more? It pulls data from some of the world’s biggest job boards, including LinkedIn, Facebook, Monster, Indeed and Glassdoor to give users a dense set of search results and help simplify the tedious job search process.

With the launch of ‘Snaplication’, snapchat is all set to revolutionize the recruiting game! A world’s first, snaplication allows applicants to initiate the job process via snaps! Given the evolution of technology and the change in audience behavior, snapchat is empowering brands to engage directly with its potential talent, especially, millennials.

As the world’s largest youth employer, McDonald’s for instance is already using Snaplication to hire more than 200,000 workers this summer! Since ~48 percent of Snapchat users are between the ages of 18 and 24, it makes a lot of sense for a brand like McDonald's to leverage snap for recruitment.

Lastly, I noticed that LinkedIn rolled out a new feature that lets people see who searched for their profile!
The Search Appearances feature is visible on a user's personal profile page (see image), for both mobile and desktop versions. It lets the user find out how many times they've been discovered. With the roll out of this feature, LinkedIn wants to give its users a sense of how frequently they're appearing in queries and how they can strengthen their profile. It also helps people see the companies and job titles of the people who found them in search to help signal what types of opportunities you may be a fit for!

How to market a jewelry brand online

Given that our recent guest speaker was from Squarespace and mentioned how important it is to have a website, I wanted to share the basic layout of a jewelry website. Having scoured multiple jewelry websites I came to the conclusion that these headings are must haves to build your visual identity online

Headings & subheadings

              History/Our Story
•       Brand - what does it stand for, USP, values, design aesthetics.
•       The designer - their vision, inspiration and other relevant information
•       Timeline: how the brand has evolved
•       Craftsmanship  -   Consumers want to know how diamonds/gems are sourced and where the product is being made
•       Philanthropy - always helps to show the brand in a positive light

Bespoke/high jewelry (if the brand offers custom made jewelry)
•       A video showing the designer sitting with a client and the steps involved in making custom orders from start to finish
•       Button on page leads directly to book an appointment

           Boutique/jewelry (affordable collections)
•       Collections: e.g. the Tiffany enagament collection, valentines collection etc
•       Categories: Rings, Bracelets, Earrings, Cufflinks

          Masterpieces
•  Exclusive one of a kind pieces. Also ones that you don’t want to share a price for.

          Press/Featured/In the News
•       Editorial – When featured in magazines
•       Celebrity – what celebrities are wearing the brand
•       Events – that the brand does/sponsors

        Enquiries
•       Leads directly to form where the options are
•       Request appointment or Request information

Recommendations also know as Bestsellers – items that the brand wants to push

New arrivals – update as necessary

Retailers/Buy/Shop – update as and when we new partnerships are formed. Good

Online surveys

How to use online to do survey?

In the digital era, it is vital to understand how to take advantage of Internet to help us maximize the results of our goals. In an era where the customer opinion can boost our sales or ruin them, we have to understand our market. For this, many tools are provided for free in the internet in order to do surveys.

Which tools are available?
Among others, the most popular tools are Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey and Google Docs.
Qualtrics, Survey Monkey and Google Docs are webs where we can create in a simple way surveys in order to do market research. From multiple choices to matrix tables, these tools allow us to use different types of questions.

Some of the possible types of questions are:
  •  Multiple choice
  • Rank order
  • Scales
  •  Heat maps
  • Slider
  • Descriptive text

The only disadvantage of this type of surveys is that you need to have your own database of respondents to send these questions.

An alternative for these webpages which has already a big audience  is Google Consumer surveys. This service is not free but it remains cheaper than surveys provided by other companies. Through this tool, it is possible to reach large customized audiences and obtain accurate results. According to the NY Times Blogger Nate Silver, this type of survey was ranked second in reliability in predicting election results in 2012 US presidential elections.

Internet can provide us a bunch of new ideas for our products; the key is to know how to discover them.

Viral Marketing, the new marketing

Viral Marketing is used by companies to spread through the internet information or commercials about their products or services. Viral Marketing can be delivered through many channels: text message, e-books, blogs twitter, web pages  and video clips. This type of strategy is aimed to individuals with high social networking potential. This helps to spread the mouth very quickly with a minimum cost.
Additionally, people pay more attention and rely more in the opinion of their friends, so viral marketing has a greater impact in the behavior of people.

The increase of social networks these last years has led marketers to adopt viral marketing in each campaign.
But what do you need to be successful in this new marketing?
First, we need a creative campaign, a good story. This will allow marketers to catch the attention of the people and increase the popularity through the recommendation of friends. Viral Marketing generally takes advantage of common behaviors and motivations, to encourage others to share their commercials.
Second, it must to be easy to transfer this information to other people. Fortunately, the development of social network has been crucial to allow Companies to use Viral Marketing.
Finally, we should avoid misinterpretations in the messages.  This can ruin the reputation of a company in a few days, as it is impossible to control the information available in the internet.
Marketers always have to pay attention at the reaction of the public at the beginning of a marketing campaign in order to react as quickly as possible and avoid bad comments to spread in the web.

Holiday Shopping in the Digital Age.

It’s hard to even remember the time before “Cyber Monday”- the time when “Black Friday” was the only game in town and you had to bundle up to brave the cold, November temperatures to score the latest digital gadget or hottest new toy.  But now, we can comfortably sit in our pajamas, waiting for the digital channel to go live.

Marketers are taking an aggressive approach to expanding the convenience associated with online shopping by allowing customers to purchase online and pick-up in the store.  This way customer can avoid the crowds, but still have access to their purchase without having to wait for delivery.  Target has rolled out this service to all of its retail outlets (where previously it had only been available in half).

Target is also entering into the competitive TV advertising space to publicize the promotions available for Cyber Monday.  Target has produced over 20 commercials inspired by the hashtag #mykindofholiday to highlight the various ways in which people celebrate.  The campaign is fully integrated with the social media strategy to create a true omni-channel experience to the customer.  For example, Target will highlight 100 products in its stores that have been trending well on Pinterest and will allow people to pin images/videos from its online catalogs to a digital pinboard.

While marketers have been emphasizing just this type of integrated, omni-channel experience, it will be interesting to see how marketers measure the success of such programs.  Is having a Pinterest driven approach to product selection a strategy that demonstrates measurable returns to the business? Surely savvy companies like Target, Walmart, and Amazon will quickly figure out what the value is and others will follow suit.
