Social media is changing the digital marketing landscape across
all industries. The Pharmaceutical industry is particularly interesting due to
the regulations and compliance restrictions that surround it. The following are
some trends which have been observed for the social media in this industry:
1) decrease in content
2) rise on video
3) Facebook engagement in on the rise
4) more content is being promoted on Facebook
5) OTC (over the counter) Brand Profiles are declining
6) companies reply to fewer tweets than ever
7) firms were active across social networks, with firms
preferring Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and YouTube.
The high engagement on Facebook and videos was pleasantly surprising
from such a regulated industry. The creation of videos is more expensive and
the content needs to align with the FDA regulations. Several brands are also focusing
on increasing the shelf life for videos.
There is a lot of data from social media for the
Pharmaceutical industry. It will be interesting to observe the future trends,
where this industry will start making data driven decisions for social campaigns.
