Google, a really efficient, money-making machine...

If you have been using Google as your preferred search engine, you'd have noticed that Google has "suggested" search results, which comes in the form of drop down choices after you key in a word. This primarily uses Google's formidable algorithm and search rankings to try and make your search more relevant and easier (rather than having to type the whole statement of what you're searching for).

With no surprise, Google is making sure that there is a monetization opportunity. In the article from techcrunch, it seems that Google has already sold some ad space on certain key words. If more people adopt the suggested search option, it seems that this new form of ad space may even win that of the other current paid ads spacing. This is possible, since the suggested search would be the 1st thing that a user sees, rather than the ad spaces that appear after a search page loads. However, with the limited space on the drop-down menu, it may be more applicable for well-known brands than for new brands to advertise it this way.

Kudos to the Google team for constantly looking for ways to make search more relevant for the users and at the same time, to monetize their search engine.
