Mobile Monday

Hi all

A final interesting read regarding the move to mobile and how Cyber Monday should probably be called "Mobile Monday" instead.

As discussed in class the ease of using your larger smartphone or phablet to do some shopping is increasing with the growth in responsive websites.

Although larger buys are probably less obvious in smaller real estate, I would argue that it is possible to do some serious researching and buying on a mobile app, even for vacations or cars. I have personally booked vacations on my phone, though I have to say I only did this a couple of weeks ago, when I already had a phablet.

That being said, regarding the entire ecommerce frenzy right after Thanksgiving, believe it is a great opportunity to get everybody geared up towards buying the things that shops feel they too much of right before the holiday season, so whether mobile or other, in an omnichannel world its great to have a couple of days where millions of people are buying what you want them to.

Nobody likes black friday

Hi all

Final post for the night.

Wanted to share a quick note that apparently, only a very small portion of the population is driving the black Friday/ cyber Monday madness, most people really don't like this way of being driven to buy stuff.

Social media madness and how to fix it

Hi All

Tomas again.

Wanted to share another great read regarding ground rules for social media marketing. Given the enormous amount of stuff out there it seems obvious be still not practiced by all to have a simple set of rules to ensure your comms stand out vs the pack.

1. Choose a specific timing to put up different posts to make sure people get used to the way you execute

2. Keep it simple and stupid (KISS), complex instructions or off platform interactions make it very though for consumers to keep up

3. Choose your platforms wisely, and don't try to do it all, through segmentation and targeting you should be able to narrow your scope down to 3-5 main platforms to use.

Multichannel customers spend 4-6 times as much

Hi all

Wanted to quickly share an article I came across today regarding multichannel and how the importance of multichannel approaches is increasing ever more. It turns out that multichannel customers spend 4-6 times as much vs single channel customers.

http://customerthink.com/did-you-know-multi-channel-customers-spend-3-4-times-more-heres-6-ways-to-get-on-board/

Next the article also outlines a number of priorities around marketing according to a survey done among professionals. It seems all focus is on creating deeper understanding, creating the optimal cross channel mix, online vs offline coordination and making sure they understand digital marketing as good as possible.

Again a great example touching on the relevance of our class.

Enjoy your evenings!

I LOVE FACEBOOK TARGETING

Hi again

Wanted to share with you my love for Facebook as a marketing and even e-commerce platform from a business as well as consumer perspective.

As a business I love it because
- Ease of use to start spending
- Potential for specific targeting
- Clean and powerful integration into friends feeds
- Amazing analytics to see where you are going

As consumer I love this even more some of the same reasons around the nice integration into my feed without being too intrusive but more importantly, THE TARGETTING IS JUST AWESOME.

To date, over the last month I have bought 5 different products I never heard of before Facebook ads. Magnises, COIN, Quip, Dollar Shave Club and Betterment. All amazing services that are exactly targeted at millennials like us.

Curious to see who else will be able to get it right in terms of targeting as often as Facebook, think they simply know so much about us which will make them hard to beat in terms of targeting, but the jury is still out!

See you in class !

How low can you go?

Hi All,

Wanted to share a quick note regarding the ethical aspects of social media marketing. A piece earlier today in The Guardien ( link below) suggest that companies use ever younger influencers to market their products to teenager. Whether or not marketing and advertising towards children is ok as a business practice depends a lot on how they are being influenced. When seeing obvious commercials on TV promoting clothing or toys, there seems to be little issues, however, how do we feel about a depending on 12-15 year old to be able to recognize an influencer post that a company has paid for vs a genuine post from a slightly more influential friend?

The question that arises is whether we need to put rules around marketing implicitly through influencers when it is targeting children. Suggest we think about clear transparency as well as some basic rules around type of product.

Fidelity, Snapchat and new forms of marketing

Fidelity, Snapchat and the success of new forms of marketing

Very interesting to see Fidelity writing off 20 % of their investment in Snapchat because of risks that it will not delivered to expected returns from new marketing formats.

Overall I believe the likelihood of these forms of marketing being successful has gone up vs down over the last months, however, the overall overvaluation of private market unicorns is much more likely to be the driving force of the write-off.

In all it seems clear that current mobile marketing solutions are not working and new formats that add more value should become more successful. From my own experience I do have to say that facebooks seems to be doing a great job, over the past week I have bought 2 products that I saw only on facebook, perfectly targeted. quiet happy with that and this also makes me feel ok that I provide FB some feedback in case they don't get it right.  If you know they it better next time, helping out is a good idea.
