In the article the author argues that 5 particular marketing trends stood out in 2020:

1. Voice search

With an increased adoption of voice searches, more and more companies started enhancing their Search Optimization Strategies to this new mode. Content is built based on phrases that users would typically say instead of the traditional keywords

2. Interactive content

Increased use of virtual/augmented reality, interactive videos and other interactive platforms is driven by companies desire to generate more customers' engagement. Apparently immersive content allows customers to feel involved and creates a differentiating competitive advantage.

3. Video podcasts

Podcast format revolutionized the way people want to obtain information. Nowadays even radio moved to video podcast format which apparently allows better connection between customers and podcast hosts/guests. As a result, podcasts enable new ways for companies to interact and connect with their customers be it through their own podcasts or through product placements on other partners' podcasts

4. Augmented analytics

Progress in data science enabled through various machine learning techniques and increased computative power started transforming marketing efforts, with much more targeted and automated campaigns

5. Shopping through social networks

Social networks generating tremendous amount of customer engagement first turned into advertising channel and are now becoming a sales channel

I do agree with all the trends but interactive content trend resonated with me the most.

Effectiveness of interactive content strategies was demonstrated in class through LEGO example, through hype generated after Netflix Black Mirror: Bandersnatch episode, Tinkoff Bank's loyalty program posting relevant stories and not even trying to cross-sell, and many other examples. Moreover, as a consultant I have recently worked for a leading telecom operator in Europe with a task of building loyalty program which would generate the engagement, which would interact with customers instead of simply enabling cellular network. Thus, I also truly believe that in future we will see more and more companies competing for a new currency, "people's engagement", which supplies them with data, generates loyalty, and opens up new marketing channels
