Social Vs. Search Smackdown: A Battle of Internet Marketing Titans

Both B2B and B2C digital marketers strive to balance budgets on social media and search engine marketing. How should they balance the budgets? Let’s see the battles between the two; Social Media Vs. Search Engine.

1.       Lead Generation: Search Engine Marketing wins

2.       Brand Awareness Building: Social Media wins

3.       Local Business Visibility: Search Engine Marketing wins

4.       Interactivity with Potential Customers: Social Media wins
The result is 2 to 2. Therefore, the winner is the “Double Team – Search Engine + Social Media.”

This was an interesting article to me, especially due to the video of the battles between the two.

Many digital marketers now appreciate the importance of the “Double Team,” where they should use both the search engines and social media as marketing tools to get closer to their specific goals, which could be either increasing lead generation or building brand awareness. Additionally, I believe that the real winner is not the “Double Team,” but the “X Team” where X is equal to various online and offline channels. The question is then, what is the optimal value of X? To answer this question, I believe that marketers need to consider targets of their products or services that they are willing to sell in terms of
a.       Age/Demographics
b.      Geography
c.       Culture
d.      Technology
e.      Politics
