Copyright of an original content shared across aggregation platforms

In France, viedemerde.fr (the French version of Fuck my life) has aggregated thousands of daily posts from anonymous contributors about their daily life. The website has published numerous books and comics using the website content.

Lately, they have tried to sue for copyright infringement any people releasing advertising or content more or less related to some of the anecdotes. The website argued that the contributors are giving away their intellectual property according to the utilization conditions.

The courts ruled that content could not be copyrighted content at the stories are not “original” enough. The ruling did not speak to the rights to strip the contributors of their intellectual property.

The users of such stories for commercial purposes still got condemned for “parasiting” the activity of “vie de merde”
