Engaging Tweets

A recent study by Buddy Media into how well marketers are utilizing Twitter has generated some prescriptive measures to help them improve.  To save yourself reading the report, below are the key tips to improving engagement:
  • Generally limit yourself to 4 tweets per day, the law of diminishing returns sets in after this
  • Tweet more between 8am and 7pm, these times yield higher engagement
  • Tweet more on the weekend – engagement can be up to 30% higher
  •  Use hashtags – but no more than 2 per tweet
  •  Keep it short – 100 characters or less
  • Use links and images - make sure they work though
  • Ask for retweets – you’re 23x more likely to get them!

Many companies use Twitter to expand their brand and become closer to their clients. However, as I’ve already mentioned in my previous blog, having too many followers does not directly mean having too many customers. Twitter might become a powerful tool for promoting your business, but it is also important to have a deep understanding of your audience, to determine your social media strategy, and to find a way to measure results. Most importantly, you need to know why and how you will use Twitter before you get involved with it.
Things to take into account:
1. Lead a thorough research: Market research is a must in marketing as whole. It is step #. Asking questions to your Twitter community might help gain insight on what’s important to your customers, what’s influencing their decisions, and how they feel about competition.
2. Design your strategy: All businesses need a strategy to develop and maintain a loyal customer base. So, first and for most it is important to comprehend your online community, which many times might be different to your overall audience, and determine how you want to be part of it.
3. Build brand awareness: It is important to drive awareness and traffic to your Twitter. How to do so and not spend money? Word of mouth is the most powerful and efficient way to do so. Figure out what your brand persona is and start engaging with your audience. Clients want to be listened!!
4. Engage with your audience: In the small business world, creating and nurturing one to one relationships with your customers can be a challenge but the most profitable and effective strategy. Social media is more about having a dialogue than any other thing. Respond to tweets as a way to start conversations with your client. It is the best way to convert your customer into a loyal one… or convince another to become a customer in the first place.
5. Build Brand loyalty: It is crucial to keep an active online presence Remember the times when it is most important to be tweeting. In this way, more people will read your tweets, retweet them, and new people will find out about your business. Some companies use Twitter as a customer retention tool so that they spot unhappy customers and solve their problems.
6. Optimize for Search: When it comes to Search Engine Optimization, it’s important to have a set of industry keywords for your business to use. Also, it’s important to make sure your tweets are compelling and are within 120-130 characters. Posting short and intriguing content will not only improve your CTR, but boost your optimization efforts.
7. Measure Your Influence: In order to understand online influence it is important to choose the correct tools. Tweetdeck or Hootsuite might help with research, engagement, and marketing.

Hope it helps!!
