UK
online game developer Mind Candy Ltd. launched a social network gaming PopJam for
children aged 7 to 12 gamers groups on July 4th, 2014. Most technology
companies have not have the courage to
get involved in children's social gaming market. Children players in the game
can post photos, painting, sharing their work and follow a certain topic or
brand.
Only
a few dedicated online games or chat services have been dominating the 7-12
year-old children's game market, such as Walt - Walt Disney's "Club
Penguin". Many network services are not allowed to children under the age
of 13 registered, including Facebook. However, there are still a lot of children
players use their parents’ accounts or cheat on their ages to become a member
or user of these networks. Therefore, many technology companies have begun to
try to focus on the user's social networking products for children. American
Yoursphere Media Inc. plans to increase the number of children users on its network
to one million.
Facebook
has tried to open its network services to children aged 10-12.
Due
to the need to deal with the network environment and compliance with regulatory
laws to protect children, companies that introduced children online social
networking games have to deal with a lot of problems, such as product costs.
Insiders on child safety and market over-commercialization also expressed
concern.
PopJam
seems to blend photo-sharing website Pinterest and Facebook's Instagram website
style. Children players can draw in PopJam game, share content with other
users, make comments, and participate in competitions to get bonus points. This
game allows children players share their works of art to more users.
