Pinterest is for holiday shopping

The Financial Times says, if "Facebook is about friends and Twitter is about interests, then Pinterest is about things."  Pinterest is a social network that allows users to pin photographs of their favorite things.  The Pinterest pages often serve as a wish list of sorts, where users can catalogue their dream purchases.

Analysts are reporting that this may be the first year that Pinterest affects the holiday season.  It is currently riding the trends of the sharing of things on line and the visualization of online shopping.  Because Pinterest is in this spot, online retailers are increasingly adding Pin It buttons so that shoppers can add items to their Pinterest pages.

As online engagement continues, retailers will continue to try to use Pinterest as a marketing avenue. The question remains whether Pinterest can capture this value to create profits.
