The role of social networks in Libya's uprisings

In the first class of Digital Marketing we covered the topic of Social Networks and its importance for marketing during the past years. Thus I thought it would be interesting to mention the role of certain social networks in the Libya uprisings of the past months. It is no secret that these uprisings were strongly supported by the Internet through blogs, facebook, twitter, and other online communities. As mentioned by an article published by the NY Times on February 23rd 2011, "Among their [the protesters] most powerful weapons have been crudely filmed videos and images of civilian deaths and injuries. The amateurish quality of these has given them an added psychological strenght and impact...". Thus one of the battles between opposition and government has taken place on the online arena which has been flooded by articles and images that portray the lives of the Libyans. One of the most important web sites to show this has been www.libyafeb17.com which tries to unite Qaddafi's opponents around the globe. Others include Almanara, Libya Alyoum, and thousands of facebook groups.
Have you encountered with any other websites or groups of this sort?
