Is AI ready to transform email marketing?
Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning are two major technologies in the spotlight lately. Both have been developed to make technology smarter, and deliver more “personalized” experiences to users. While more relevant and/or personalized experiences seems positive for brands looking to target their consumers and get them to take action, it directly conflicts with concerns many consumers have over the privacy of their data. AI needs to know something about a consumer - either explicit or demonstrated action - to customize the next experience for them. But, with so many concerns around personal data privacy, will stricter regulations be put in place, limiting the effects of AI for marketing use? I think its going to be a difficult landscape for markers to navigate - needing to collect enough information about their consumers to deliver personalized communications, but still somehow making those same consumers feel safe and that their data is protected. AI could truly transform email marketing, but it could also be a total failure. It will be up to today’s marketers to figure this out.
