Do you know "Better Ads Standards"?
Better Ads Standards were created by the Coalition for Better Ads (CBA) to improve online advertising user experience, as a set of 12 ad display styles that users find off-putting. Google has been hiding web ads that do not comply with the Better Ads Standards from February 15, 2018.
There are four types of desktop web ads that users find offensive. There are eight types of mobile ads: Pop-up Ads, Auto-playing Video Ads with Sound, Prestitial Ads, and Large Sticke Ads. When it comes to mobile ads, users could be offended by Ad Density Higher than 30%, Flashing Animated Ads, Full-screen Scroll over Ads, etc.
CBA's research found that there are poorly rated ad experiences that make users feel uncomfortable or annoyed. Those ad experiences also could encourage users to use the ad-blocking feature. They are going to be an obstacle to the future of online advertising.
In Japan, there is another problem. A Japanese news provider company has been in trouble creating online cosmetic ads with fake reviews and irrelevant photos.
These unreliable ads are not categorized as offensive online ads above, but they are unreliable ads. This would go hand in hand with the discussion of fake news.
Japan and the rest of the world have repeatedly raised the issue of the quality of Internet advertising. It is reported that images of celebrities have been appropriated without permission. Besides, some online advertising companies seem to have been affected by their performance because of other companies' fake internet news. It goes without saying that we have to take a hard look at them in today's society with all kinds of advertising.
