Google has announced a new search engine called Google Squared. Google’s official blog post about it is here. To me, it seems strikingly similar to Wolfram Alpha in the sense that it pulls together various types of information about a particular search query from the web reports it in an organized fashion. In the case of Google Squared, however, the result is in the form of an arguably inaccurate spreadsheet. But, as users respond with feedback about the relevancy of the search results, the accuracy is expected to improve.
One thing noticeably absent: advertisements. This could be due to the fact that the nascent search engine is still in its "experimental" phase. But, there is tremendous potential.
For example, when you search for [mountains in Peru], an output of columns including names, pictures, descriptions, heights, locations, and ranges of the various mountains is returned. I wouldn’t be surprised to see an additional column (or, at least, a banner ad) advertising airfares, hotel accommodations, and tour guide services in the near future.
