Google Voice is here to stay

In continuing their strategy to attain world domination, Google is starting to aggressively push out their Google Voice service to the web. For anyone who is not familiar with this new service (see link below), Google Voice offers a unique menu of functionality as it allows users to manage all of their phone numbers (cell, home, office) through their Google account. What does this mean for you or me? It means that we won't have to worry about missing a call if we are in our apartment and someone calls our cell phone (yes, my cell phone doesn't work in my NYC apartment...thanks AT&T). Google Voice has some compelling features- it can allow you to enable call forwarding from any of your phones numbers to your desired location, it can transcribe your voicemail to text or e-mail (that's big), and it will allow you to send any unwanted callers to voicemail (also big). Google will give you a new phone number if desired (your Google number) which will ring at every one of your phones at the same time. I think a lot of people will be interested in the added convenience that Google voice provides and it may only be a matter of time before everyone in your network has a Google phone number. What will be interesting will be how the rollout of Google voice will affect the mobil phone market. As a loyal iPhone user, I haven't considered switching to any of the new droid phones that are powered by Google's mobile operating system. However, as Google voice becomes more tightly integrated with the droid line of phones, you may start to see more users migrate over as a result of the convenience factor in managing your phone numbers. It should be interesting to see how Apple responds as these will be features that most users will most likely demand as Google voice evolves. Stay tuned.

I think we are seeing the reshaping of competitive landscape. Google is coming up with really great products such as Google Voice and makes it harder on others. The old rivals Microsoft and Apple (smart phones, operating system, mp3 player, search engines and so on) are teaming up to fight off the Google's expansion.

Apple sees a potential threat from Google's phone operating system and the introduction of Google's phone. Apple is now thinking of ways to drop the standard Google functions on iPhone like GoogleMap and search engine. Apple is believed to be developing its own mapping software and in talks with MS to replace Google’s search engine with Bing.

Will Google be able to emerge as a winner and steel the dominance from iPhone and MS? Is Apple's creativity outperformed by Google's?

I am an iPhone user, but really like some cool stuff that's available through Google's smart phone. I also like the way the market it. I think you can buy one unlocked from the authorized distributors. May think of buying one to use in my home country after the graduation.

My opinion is that Google is on its way to claim its dominance. Google chose a challenging fight. But catching up with Google will be even more challenging.

P.S. My first blogging ever!
