This week, as reported on Business of Fashion, Finnish content monetization start-up Kiosked received $6.9 million in new funding. Kiosked links images on the web to online stores making it easier for people to purchase items featured in online videos and images, which can range from news photos to a sports reel.
Kiosked already works with Nike linking images of athletes in action around the web to nike.com for the purchase of the shoes or apparel featured in the content. Other clients include video platform provider Brightcove and Getty Images. With this round of funding, Kiosked is looking to expand their client base.
As brands try to develop new ways to increase online conversion, Kiosked provides a potentially valuable service. Think of the number of times someone sees an item in an image or video and wonders who made it and where they can buy it. Athletic brands are an obvious target for Kiosked's services, but partnerships with celebrity gossip sites and fashion brands could more directly monetize the painstaking PR efforts fashion brands go through in order to have celebrities get photographed in their items. The possibilities for brand partnerships really do seem endless.
Additionally, Kiosked is refining their analytics capabilities to provide clients with detailed data on consumer purchases. Definitely an interesting start-up to keep an eye on...
