In August, Facebook announced they would begin releasing monthly and daily web and mobile user counts country by country. This is important because customers on mobile are using their devices daily if not hourly, and the potential ad returns differ across the world.
In the US, Facebook has 179M Monthly Active Users (MAU) and 128M Daily Active Users (DAU). Of the daily users, 78% are on mobile. Historical counts of monthly active users or total registered users is no longer relevant for mobile. Advertisers need to know how many consumers are interacting with their ads each day, and they must change and target their content accordingly.
Advertisers also need geographic data. While Facebook's global mobile daily active user count increased 10.3% in the first quarter of 2013, the value of mobile varies greatly by region. Advertisers can still earn more per mobile user in first-world markets than in emerging international markets.
Facebook's decision to release this information will allow mobile advertisers to evaluate more closely where to target their campaigns and how to shape global mobile advertising as this market continues to skyrocket.
