How Marketers Can Take Advantage of Cyber Monday
Last year, more than $1.7 billion was spent on Cyber Monday, which is an increase of 18% from the previous year. With Black Friday sales coming to an end, ecommerce is hoping to capture the last wads of cash from consumers' wallets.
This year, the main strategy for marketers seems to follow a consistent trend: 1. gain social media followers, 2. engage potential customers, 3. turn followers into paying customers. Based on the amount on engagement and the type of engagement, marketers can really see their efforts pay off on Cyber Monday.
Mark Cooper delivers 5 key tips to optimize the Cyber Monday opportunity as a marketer:
1. Make sure to focus on the customer's experience. Marketers tend to want to gather data about their customers through online surveys, pop-ups, and the like, but marketers need to remember that too much can also deteriorate a customer's online shopping experience.
2. Reward customers with incentives. If you need to gather more data about your customer through feedback or engagement, give them an extra push by providing discount rewards or small gifts to thank them for their time and effort. A little extra can go a long way.
3. Be careful how you approach data collection. Gathering data should be taken baby steps at a time. If you go about asking customers too much about themselves upon initial interaction, that could drive them away or rub them the wrong way. By asking for minor things such as an email address first, you'll be able to inch your customers in the right direction.
4. Give them something to talk about. Give your subscribers useful information that they are likely to share with their friends and family. Don't go overboard with emails about sales - add value to their experience and make them thankful they subscribed to your email list to begin with.
5. Be original. It's always easier to copy and paste links from other media sites, but when you come up with your own content, it is much more meaningful to your customers. It shows that you know them and you have taken time to curate a piece just for them. Add authenticity to the process.
