After our discussion in class, I did some additional research on strategies to improve your rankings in google through SEO. I found a couple links pretty interesting - see here and here. Here are some techniques not expicitly mentioned in class, but I think they are useful for all of us to know:
Locate references without links. Look for web pages that mention your business or website. Without a link back to your site, Google will not count the citation as a vote. You can use Google Alerts to create an automated notification, so that anytime a website mentions your business, you will receive an e-mail. You can then get in touch and ask them to provide a link back to your website.
Participate In Forums:
Google loves forums that are most frequently updated and by getting a back link from these forums you will succeed on increasing Page Rank.
In other news, I was reading this article the other day and found it interesting that adverting is now starting to look like real journalist articles. It looks like digital marketing is getting more and more creative. Not sure if google is going anything about this, but it seems like they could skirt many of the rules that google is trying to impose. Would really be interested in reading some thoughts from google on this.
