5 Ways to Boost Organic Traffic to Your Website

Tip 1: Use Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP)

  • I have seen a significant impact on website traffic with the usage of Accelerated Mobile Page (AMP). AMP is a project from Google designed to make really fast mobile pages. Overall, it strips down the HTML of the page and serves the page from the Google’s server directly.
  • With the usage of AMP pages, the speed of loading the page increases significantly as it is cached on the Google’s servers and the web pages start ranking up better on mobile devices.
  • The only issue could be tracking of events and goals in Google Analytics (more on this later).

Tip 2: Add structured data markups to your webpage

  • Structured data is coded using in-page markup on the page that the information applies to. The structured data on the page describes the content of that page.
  • You can check Schema.org to find the structured data for your website. Schema.org helps to provide the information search engines need to understand your content and adding Schema markup to your HTML improves the way your page displays in SERPs by enhancing the rich snippets that are displayed beneath the page title.
  • The CTR of the links on SERP can drastically improve if your page starts showing up with the rich snippets based on implemented markups on Google (e.g. product ratings).

Tip 3: Use high search frequency keywords in the title and meta description and run A/B tests

  • Title tags show up on search engine results pages i.e. SERPs as the blue clickable headline for a given search and are very critical for SEO optimization. Title tag specifies the title of a web page.
  • Meta descriptions provide a concise summary of the website and it should usually be a short sentence. This appears below the title in a search engine results page. Depending on a user's query, Google personalizes and pulls up meta description text from the content in your page based on the context of the search.
  • Ensure to check search trends and use high-frequency search keywords in the title and meta description of the page. Use A/B testing (space out the testings across similar web pages) to figure out which title and meta description optimizes the impressions and CTR for you on the web pages.

Tip 4: Use header tags (H1, H2 etc.) on the webpage

  • Heading tags have an influence on rankings of pages when it comes to SERP. The simpler approach is to stick to one H1 on the page and make the rest of the important headings H2.
  • Use simple and natural keywords in the header tags and avoid keyword stuffing.

Tip 5: Use rich text to make content more readable and embed optimized videos and images

  • Use rich text to ensure the content is more readable and reduce cognitive load for the users. This will increase the time on the site and also reduce the bounce rate, further improving the rankings in the SERP.
  • Simply avoid text as an image, so that Google bots can understand the text better it. Text as an image is also not always ideal for people who require magnifying text.
  • Embed videos with right structured markups along with the content wherever possible. Video transcription should also be provided alongside the video. Transcription is helpful to hearing-impaired visitors who can’t hear the video, and also allows Google to understand the content of the video.
