Japanese are too sensitive with online online advertising?

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) started putting advertising on its website on September 15th to reduce costs. However, it was forced to suspend a day after carrying out because inappropriate advertising appears. It was said that this advertising was based on a pay-per-click online advertising model associated with search engines.

The JMA website receives about 7.9 billion hits a year and is expected to generate a large amount of advertising revenue, helping cut costs. However, in Japan, it is unusual for advertisements to appear on a ministry's website. Some people inside the ministry and outside have cast doubts about displaying ads on pages that provide life-threatening disaster information.

Are Japanese too sensitive to web advertising? Or is there a suitable advertisement for a public web page?

Some people think that there will be times when advertising will get in the way when you look for a matter of life and death. On the other hand, others think that there will need to be a revenue source to generate compelling content. The issue regarding relevant ads would continue to be a controversial topic in Japan.

What do you think about this?

I think that the JMA should have sold ad space to appropriate companies for the JMA, not a pay-per-click.

A website like the JMA is unique from other websites. Therefore it is very valuable. From the perspective of the advertiser, "advertising on the JMA" is beneficial and reliable. JMA website is a particularly attractive ad space for companies that are compatible with "weather." For example, "travel" and "tourism" are very compatible with the weather. For these businesses, the JMA's ad space is attractive and could be profitable.

It is interesting to see how the JMA manages web advertising, and I look forward to seeing what strategies the JMA will take in the future.
