Last week I blogged about how facebook seems to be better positioned than Google to reap the benefits of the global surge in online ad spending. On a related subject, Bing (Microsoft's search engine) launched its social search a short while ago integrating facebook (which Microsoft owns a minority stake in) into the search results. While Google replied last month by announcing that it will globally roll out its social search functionality, Bing's integration with Facebook is priceless.
Facebook is essentially becoming part of Bing's methodology to rank search results and also gives a better user experience since people can see what their friends have liked in the search results. While Google intends to provide similar features it will always show more social results from strangers since it does not have the integration that Bing enjoys.
As against the flow as this might sound but Google is taking another blow while Microsoft is scoring a point. Microsoft is still way behind Google though on online services and particularly search.
