"Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos took to 60 Minutes to reveal the company's latest delivery method: drones". - Engadget
In a time where, people are still impressed by same-day delivery. Amazon just announced that they have created drones that can deliver Amazon products to your household in less than 30 mins. A truly revolutionary concept.
People couldn't help talking about it. As of 11pm eastern time tonight, I counted more than 427 tweets about "Amazon Prime Air" on Twitter before I couldn't keep up with the tweets anymore. On my Facebook feed, a number of my friends made posts about Amazon Air Prime. Major tech blogs (Techcrunch, Engadget, Gizmodo) scrambled to write up a post about the drones.
But considering that is a digital marketing blog and that Amazon revealed this new development for the company on 60 minutes, you may be wondering what this drone program has to do with digital marketing. Well consider this: there is no way that Amazon Prime Air could be released before 2015 due to FCC regulations.
Amazon outsmarted us all.
While this new drone program of Amazon's is really cool, I suspect that the timing of the release had more to do with the fact that Cyber Monday is tomorrow. The viral spread of Amazon Prime Air tweets, posts, and blogs, is sending loads of traffic to Amazon.com. Just in time, for those visitors to see the deals that Amazon is posting for Cyber Monday.
This just shows you that fully integrating your traditional and digital marketing strategy can allow a company to reap huge rewards.
Good for you Amazon.
