Another Article on Election Misinformation (How Google is Escaping the Spotlight)

Yet another article on election misinformation. It's big news because the election is on everyone's mind. Facebook has been one to receive the blame for misinformation consistently in news, podcasts, and conversations amongst friends. But how about Google? And, further, how about anyone but Facebook?

As I was reading this article, I agreed with all of the points made--that Facebook was the only one actually making its data transparent and actually reporting on a precise misinformation strategy. That is an achievement for the company and the battle against misinformation. The article to me though was more about the need for more transparency in the form of more regulation.

Researchers are complaining about the lack of data on how much misinformation there is and how much is being filtered out. But, to me, I wonder if we can ever rely on companies like Facebook to reliably report this data without government intervention.

It's a controversial topic (regulating of Big Tech), but a necessary one to keep a conversation around. Just releasing data isn't enough to make a dent.
