MasterClass Rebrand Reflects its Values

MasterClass is a streaming platform where people can learn about a wide range of topics from world-class instructors. The company was launched in 2015 and recently went through its first rebrand, changing its logo, color palette, and overall aesthetic. The redesign was done to reflect the values of the company: diversity of thought, challenging people to learn, critical thinking. Take the “M” logo. It is now more abstract, featuring an underscore in front. The underscore represents a fill-in-the-blank, an urging to think creatively and critically, to be proactive, and to indulge your curiosity. It speaks directly to its members and purposely leaves room for interpretation. In addition, each course has a new and unique look based on the personality and work of the instructor, including logo, font, and color. The aesthetic is different from the rest of the website, but reflects the diversity of thought and background of the instructors on the platform. This is an example of a company using its branding and design to express its values, and evolving with the times to empower its members, instructors, and communities.
