Unethical Advertising practices - a sponsored article?

Browsing the newsfeed of the TechCrunch, I found an article that would be perfect for our class. But having learned about paid search and having to disclose paid content, I actually realized this article was sponsored content by Ogury. Given the potential hypocrisy of an advertising company sponsoring what seems like a targeted ad, I couldn’t help but click on the article.

The first half of the article seemed like every other article, laying out the issues with today’s targeted adverting. It focused on data collection and privacy, with targeting ads potentially harming a brand’s image. In addition, it spoke about the multiple data breaches where clients' personal information had been stolen and further harmed the relationship between the brand and the customer.

The article then went into 3-steps to stop the spread of toxic data, which was unrelated to the Ogury. Finally, Ogury’s solution was presented. Using safe data to deliver relevant ads to consumers, Ogury focuses on a user-first approach emphasizing privacy, choice, and fraud defense.

At the end of the day, the article was interesting and less of an advertisement and more like an article informative. I think Ogury did well on following through with an ethical advertainment for their company while adhering to their values.
