Is Twitter just for old people?

Have you ever wondered... who are the 5,261 people following Reebok? More importantly, why the hell is Reebok following 4,320 other brands? What is in it for Reebok?

Well, here is the secret. Twitter doesn't really work that well. Twitter is a community of self-promoters who are all "following" each other, but in reality... nobody else (e.g. the consumer) actually cares. They simple tweet comments to get reciprocity points (social capital) ... as if it's actually doing any good.

Stop by a high school or college and ask some teenagers if they use Twitter. Chances are they don't. Nobody at CBS uses Twitter either (unless they are self-promoting of course).

The amazing thing about Twitter is their public relations campaign. Somehow, all the people who read the buzz in the Wall Street Journal (old people) are using Twitter as a cheap way to promote themselves and think they are being "hip".
