From Tweet to Fleet

In an effort to jump on the vanishing message bandwagon, Twitter is piloting “fleets” in Brazil beginning this Thursday, March 5. Fleets is aimed at the same customer base who takes part in Instagram Stories and Snapchat, with the Fleet deleting after 24 hours of posting. Not a bad maneuver given Instagram’s major success with Stories, however one could argue the interface is much different both for the author and the reader.

Instagram stories, photos and videos with the option of overlaying text (among many other options), feels robust and in-your-face – perfect for the attention span of someone living in the 21st century. But will the same be true for pure text on Twitter’s platform?

Albeit, I am not an active user on Twitter, perhaps they are aiming their sights at those similar to me who don’t want one fleeting thought to live on and be published on the site forever.
