1/3 of UK Consumers Will Exercise GDPR

In a survey done of over 1,000 U.K. consumers, 34% say they are planning on enacting their right "to be forgotten."  With the rollout of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) set to be enacted in less than 100 days, both consumers and advertisers are trying to figure out what these new regulations mean for them.

But this doesn't just affect companies in the U.K or the E.U.  It affects any company who accesses data from a user in the U.K. and imposes heavy fines for those who violate their rights to privacy.  Fines are up to 4% of annual turnover of 20 million Euro.

This is going to create major issues for companies who sell user data to 3rd parties. However, this is great for consumers who can now feel more secure that their data will not be used or sold.  It will likely have beneficial affects for all users beyond those who live in the U.K. because companies will find it very difficult to parse out users solely from the U.K.
