NFL future – streaming or good ole fashion TV!
Following the talk from the CEO of Luma Partners in our
class last week, I found this article to be so relevant. In the rapidly
changing landscape of media, the traditional media companies continue to face
daunting challenge from the big social media giants such as Google and
Facebook. The article talks about both the struggle and opportunity for NFL.
As NFL continues to struggle with declined viewership, especially
with younger audience, the new digital platform present both an opportunity and
a struggle. NFL makes billions of dollars by selling live game rights to the
big TV studios. With the (cable) cord cutting generation becoming more
mainstream, NFL is facing a real challenge to retain fans. At the same time, TV
studios have live games and sports as the last hope that’s keeping them
relevant in the age of digital media.
Who will be the winner in the end – silicon valley or the traditional
TV giants?
