I found an article that talked a bit about the timeline of search engine, and the transition of default search going from Yahoo to Google. As our professor mentioned in class, Yahoo! Directory was harder to maintain because it depended on people to maintain the directory. As the internet boomed, Google's algorithm based search engine took off as the dominant search engine. At any rate, Yahoo! is finally pulling the plug on this old directory.
