With most of the country - if not world - forced to stay at home, many industries are going to suffer as they rely on people being out and about to consume their goods and/or services. It will be imperative for all industries to get creative and flex how they bring their goods or services to the end consumer. I think there will be a lot of shifts in industries in the coming weeks.
Once such an industry that is going to need to evolve is the dating app space, where matches are made virtually, but then the actual relationships play out IRL. A good friend of mine partnered with Hinge in the last week to create commercials chronicling what a first "date" might look like if done virtually, as that is the only way to connect during the pandemic. They've rolled out Instagram ads already and hope to spark inspiration with their userbase to keep, if not increase, their active users. If they're able to keep an engaged userbase, they can likely continue to deliver on whatever their CPMs are. Further, this could be the start of a new feature for the app - video chat.
I look forward to seeing more of the ads and will see if I can get any insight from the company as to whether these new ads seem to resonate with the single, staying at home population.
