Mobile Search is Getting Better

Google is always trying to make search better and in the coming months they plan to improve mobile search with a couple interesting additions. The overall goal is to help users discover more mobile friendly. The news of the upcoming changes comes directly from Google.

First, on April 21st, Google will be giving a bit more credence to mobile friendly websites, especially when searching from a mobile device. In order to prep users for this upcoming change Google continues to offer their mobile friendly test and mobile usability report. I went ahead and tested out my company web page to see how we were doing. We did get the green thumbs up for having a mobile friendly site but as you see below, we've still got a bit of work to do.

The second change took place back in February but it is really interesting. In the interest of not botching Google's impressive wordsmithing, I've include the quote surrounding the change below.
  •  "will begin to use information from indexed apps as a factor in ranking for signed-in users who have the app installed. As a result, we may now surface content from indexed apps more prominently in search. To find out how to implement App Indexing, which allows us to surface this information in search results"
So maybe having an app for your business just got a little more important?

I'm looking forward to continuing to see Google make search better and force small business marketers to make more and more relevant content that caters to the people they are serving.
