TikTok is taking proactive measures to educate people about the spread of the virus, and clearly has user attention. What struck me about this was the captive and interested audience is engaging in this “marketing” about COVID. TikTok has a page of q&a, ways to protect yourself, myth busters in partnership with the WHO, and daily protective measures. The WHO launched its TikTok presence with a video on Friday about what the virus is, and how to wear a mask. Within 2 days the WHO account had garnered 160k followers and >1million likes. In a period of social distancing, TikTok is a way to connect and come together, this is an interesting time to see how information is being shared. Misinformation is rampant on social media, conspiracy theories, and rumors, so it’s interesting that the WHO has done directly to TikTok to be part of the conversation.
