The argument against Ad Blocker!

Ad blocking is a topic I have always found incredibly fun to discuss. I have often heard of the argument that using adblocker (let’s take AdBlock Plus as an example here) is a selfish act since you’re basically asking to consume information for free. However, I recently heard another argument for why you shouldn’t use ad block. The reason – the Acceptable Ads Program. These are the ads that AdBlock Plus DOES NOT block because they are considered less intrusive. And here’s the kicker – You can pay to have your ads included in the program. How much you ask? ~30% of all whitelisted ad revenue (for example, if Google makes $10 million from whitelisted ads, AdBlock Plus makes ~$3 million). However, it actually gets worse. AdBlock Plus now runs something called Accepted Ads Platform which is basically them now selling ads directly to users of their adblocker. Not only does this sound like a breach of trust but is a huge conflict of interest as publishers are incentivized to run their ads on this platform because otherwise the standard whitelisting process for their ads takes weeks to go through. Would love to learn more about this topic from anyone who has experience in the field or has any additional information about these issues.
