Facebook trying to genrerate ad revenue from small business

Facebook is ramping up their effort to target small businesses to generate ad revenue. According to TIME the social media giant is having some trouble in convincing small business owners to pay for ads. The issue is further complicated by the fact that small business posts are not being widely displayed, even by the people who have liked their pages. It will be interesting to see if Facebook is able to monetize the participation of a small businesses on their site. Certainly it seems like it could be a useful for small businesses to advertise through social media sites such as Facebook. With many small businesses catering to niche markets social media it could be a great way to reach people in the "long tail". One new tool released by Facebook called lookalike targeting allows companies to target people that are similar to their customers could provide a good way for small business to reach more people. The adoption rate of small businesses to including paid social media advertising in their marketing budgets will be interesting to follow as new tools and education programs grow in popularity.
