After last week's presentation, I could not help but draw similarities between the Claimfame and early Doostang model. Doostang.com is an online career networking community that originated as a closed website for students and graduates of top-ranking U.S. undergraduate and MBA programs. (https://www.doostang.com/). Doostang, has made significant changes to its business model in the past few years because of increasing competition from LinkedIn.
Some obvious similarities:
Show you a short blurb of job description but hide contact info for recruiters - accessible only after one pays for subscription
Very often one cannot apply using Doostang website, they direct you to the company website with official job opening
30-day free trial, that is automatically converted to annual subscription - unless customer chooses to terminate contract ( not an easy process)
Subscribers who choose to end contract receive daily emails with job descriptions to lure customers back to subscription
Polished website in an effort to distinguish itself from counterparts (indeed.com etc)
I was also surprised to find out that Brian Hecht was not aware of Doostang, despite most of their policies being identical. Check out the website and let me know what you think!
