McKinsey released an article showcasing how Burberry
successfully implemented its digital strategy. Angela Ahrendts, Burberry CEO now hired by Apple to head its retail
business, managed to grow what seemed an stalling business by taking personal
control of the digital strategy project and executing initiatives such as:
1. Website featuring customers as models,
2. More robust e-commerce catalog that matched the company’s in-store inventory, and
3. Digitalization of retail stores through features such as radio-frequency identification tags.

The golden rule for a successful implementation is to give e-commerce
a business unit status with its own P&L and executive leadership, and not to treat
it merely as a channel.
